Dorothy Day House  
   

Program Description
Provides 24-hour emergency shelter for women
and women with children who are homeless or housing vulnerable. Participants come from situations that include domestic violence, eviction, disaster (such as fire), poverty, sustained housing or a need to leave family or friends.

Support Services Provided
Advocacy, crisis counseling, casework, support groups,
referral and assistance with relocation.

Eligibility
Women of any age. However, we usually refer adolescent-aged women to community services specifically geared toward that age group. Families with male children older than age 10 are determined case by case. The shelter is not wheelchair accessible. Limited accessibility may be an issue with second-floor family rooms. No restriction on area served, in and out-of -state. Women need to bring I.D. and social security numbers for each family member.

The shelter is within the city of Syracuse, the exact location is confidential for safety reasons. Service providers may call 476-0617 and speak with any DDH staff regarding intake.

 
 
Hospitality Houses  
   

Program Description
4 three bedroom apartments, transitioning out of emergency shelters,
are available for families in need of an affordable, large, comfortable apartment.

Support Services Provided
Advocacy, crisis counseling, casework, support groups,
referral and assistance with relocation are available through Homeward Connection and Dorothy Day House.

Eligibility
Families in need of a temporary three-bedroom apartment. Ability to self-pay rent or access DSS vouchering.

Payment
Reasonable rent will be negotiated.

Oxford Street Inn  
   

Program Description
Provides emergency evening shelter services
for homeless men. Dormitory style sleeping accommodations. Shower and laundry facilities. A light meal is served.

Support Services Provided
Casework services are available
for shelter residents interested in securing permanent housing.

Eligibility
Homeless adult men.

Payment
None
