Maggie started coming to Bishop Foery Foundation last year after finishing kindergarten. She is a very energetic and happy child who enjoys playing with others as well as jumping rope. She has made friends easily with the help of her two older sisters who have been attending the program for the past year.
With the start of the school year, staff noticed that Maggie was acting out during homework time, not bringing homework to the center, and/or leaving her books at the center at the end of the program. Staff informed her grandmother what they had been observing and enlisted the support of Maggie’s grandmother as well as her older siblings to help her succeed at Bishop Foery and in school. Staff also had several talks with Maggie about remembering to bring her homework into the center everyday. There has since been an improvement in the quality of her school work, and she is able to work with other children in a constructive way on flash cards or on reading a story. With the little extra attention to these details, Maggie gained her own confidence in the work she is doing.
