Capacity Building
Helping individuals and families achieve their highest level of functioning

Pre-K
Catholic Charities partners with the Syracuse City School District to operate Pre-K programs in areas of most need in the city. We are dedicated to ensuring that our kids leave Pre-K ready to enter kindergarten and begin their educational journey. This program levels the playing field for children in poverty who need an extra hand as they progress. We follow the Syracuse City School District curriculum, including social-emotional learning and outdoor play opportunities.

ParentChild+
Knowing that children living in poverty are most at risk for entering kindergarten behind, ParentChild+ takes a comprehensive approach to creating a community where all children are healthy, thriving and ready to learn. ParentChild+ uses education to break the cycle of poverty for under-resourced families with young children. Early Learning Specialists meet with families twice a week over a two-year period, working to break the cycle of poverty and build a foundation of early literacy, problem-solving, numeracy skills, and social-emotional development.

Skill-Building
The Catholic Charities Skill-Building program focuses on developing skills tailored for each individual in three core areas: emotional regulation, social competency, and community connections. Youth between the ages of 5 to 18 who reside in Onondaga County are eligible to receive skill-building services for a period of three to six months. No mental health diagnosis or income qualifications are necessary for participation – just the willingness of the youth to engage in services. The program is a free community resource.
